Why Alphonse Mucha motive? or Who is Alphonse Mucha???

As you may have noticed there is Alphonse Mucha Collection among our products. Almonds in Milk Chocolate with Cinnamon called 'Heavenly Almonds' are wrapped in paper bag (100 g) and tin (150 g) with Alfonse Mucha design on.

And that might rise a question 'Why Alphonse Mucha motive?' and 'Who Alphonse Mucha actually is?'. Let's start from the end.

Alphonse Mucha or Alfons Maria Mucha (1860-1939) was a great Czech artist, internationally famous, known best for his distinct style which is by all means considered outdated. You can search for his incredible work... frequently featured beautiful young women in flowing, vaguely Neoclassical-looking robes, often surrounded by lush flowers which sometimes formed halos behind their heads.

During his life, he painted mostly theatrical scenaries at the beginning, then worked as a decorative and portrait painter, even castle decorator, advertising illustrator at magazines, and very famous advertisement poster illustrator, especially in Paris. He became a good friend of Sarah Bernhardt, the most famous Paris actress of those days and had a contract for illustrating advertisement posters of her plays for 6 years.

He was multitalented and created flurry of paintings, posters, advertisements, and book illustrations, as well as designs for jewelry, carpets, wallpaper, and theatre sets in what was termed initially 'The Mucha Style' but became known as 'Art Nouveau' (French for 'New Art'). Although he always insisted that rather than maintaining any fashionable stylistic form, his paintings were entirely a product of himself... and Czech art, as he claimed.

He put heart into his work and declared that art existed to communicate a spiritual message.

Throughout his life he visited many countries where he studied and worked: Austria, Germany, France, USA... He was a great deal of cosmopolitan and also great deal proud of his roots. He always returned to his home country - Czech Republic, or those days: Czechoslovakia, settled down in Prague. He also designed the new postage stamps, banknotes, and other government documents for his country.

His life's fine art masterpiece is considered The Slav Epic - a series of twenty huge paintings depicting the history of the Czech and Slavic people, as a celebration of Slavic history.

We are proud to present work of this great man through delicious products of Steiner & Kovarik products. They chose his decorative panel called 'Moon' from 'The Moon and the Stars' series. A beautiful woman personifying the moon looks sensual, dramatic and meditative at the same time. What an original style!

If we may put it this way, there is something special about Mucha. He contributed to the whole artistic world, he brought in his original style, combined art beauty and commerce, was sensitive to his roots and all history and yet went international, put his heart to his work and the whole life. We admire his work which is still beautiful and popular these days.

Steiner & Kovarik also put their heart to their work. They love what they do and they do what they love. They appreciate their roots and yet go internationally, without any prejudice, keeping their original style. Just trying to spread good news, beauty and great taste through their amazing chocolate products.

... by the way, speaking of great taste... do you know that their Heavenly Almonds / Roasted Almonds in Milk Chocolate with Cinnamon won a star at the UK prestigious competition Great Taste Award 2016? Well, we'll tell you, they are worth to try!

Enjoy:)
